The University of Dhaka at Shahbag in Dhaka is also known as Dhaka University. It earns a reputation as the "Oxford of the East". The University of Dhaka is the oldest university in modern Bangladesh. It established in 1921 during the British Raj. The former building of Dhaka College was the first place of Dhaka University before it was established. After it shifted to Curzon Hall and it was the first institute of the Dhaka University.
Today, The University of Dhaka is biggest public university in Bangladesh. It has around 37,000 students and 1,800 faculty. AsiaWeek declared that The University of Dhaka one of the top 100 universities in Asia. Internationally The University of Dhaka was ranked 701 (2014-2015) by QS World University Rankings .
